Kirsten & Robby
A Personal Wedding Identity Inspired by Scotland

The Brief
Kirsten and Robby wanted stationery that felt elegant, meaningful, and personal. The aim was to create a visual identity that celebrated them becoming one while incorporating elements that reflected their backgrounds and personalities.
The Design Approach
The design centred around an illustration of a Scottish thistle and an English rose.
The thistle was chosen to represent Kirsten’s Scottish heritage, whilst the rose represented Robby’s English heritage. Inspired by the intertwining of their lives through marriage, the flowers were woven together to create the illustration.
The concept of intertwining being particularly meaningful to Kirsten. As a canoe slalom athlete, the design on her boat featured an intertwined thistle and shamrock motif. This personal connection inspired the direction of the wedding identity, allowing the stationary to reflect an important part of Kirsten’s life whilst representing both her and Robby.
The design intentionally retained the natural leaves and thorns of both flowers. Rather than simplifying the illustration, representing the journey of their relationship and shared experiences. Just as a rose and thistle are shaped both by their flowers and thorns, Kirsten and Robby’s relationship has been shaped by the challenges, growth, achievements, and memories that brought them to this point.
The result was a design that celebrated not only their heritage but also their story.
The final illustration became a meaningful visual identity that could be carried throughout the stationery suite to create a cohesive, recognisable symbol unique to them.
